From Orangeburg Loop to US Highway 78, Dorchester County’s Transportation Sales Tax Program includes road improvement projects of local and regional significance, dirt road paving projects, pavement preservation, and intersection and safety improvement projects. Cedar Street
This project consists of extending Cedar St from its current terminus to Berkeley Circle. The project relieves traffic congestion and improves safety. The project is located in Dorchester County, Berkeley County and the Town of Summerville.
Central Avenue
The Central Avenue Project includes the widening of Central Avenue between Orangeburg Road and Parsons Road to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, and accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
Delemar Highway
The Delemar Highway Project includes the widening of Delemar Highway between Clubhouse Road and Ashley Ridge High School to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, and accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
Design Build Bridges
This project includes the replacement of three (3) structurally deficient bridges: Deer Run Road, Summers Drive, and Pointer Drive.
Dorchester Road
The Dorchester Road Project includes the widening of Dorchester Road between the Charleston County line and Old Trolley Road to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, and accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
Linger Longer Drive Extension
The Linger Longer Drive Extension project includes the extension of Linger Longer Drive to tie into Headwaters Drive. This will provide a secondary and signalized access to The Ponds subdivision to improve access and safety.
Maple Street
The project is under construction and is expected to be completed in March 2025. An intergovernmental agreement has been executed between the Town of Summerville and Dorchester County to reimburse the Town of Summerville for construction expenditures. The reimbursement is not to exceed $22,100,841.
Miles Jamison Road
The Miles Jamison Road Project includes the widening of Miles Jamison Road between Old Trolley Road and Ladson Road to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, and accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
Orangeburg Loop
The Orangeburg Loop Project proposes to widen Orangeburg Road (from Dorchester Road to Yerby Road), Mallard Road (from Orangeburg Road to Highway 78), and Jedburg Road (from Highway 78 to the Berkeley County Line) to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, and accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians. The approximate eight miles of roadway is proposed to be widened to two travel lanes in each direction with a center turn lane or landscaped median.
Orangeburg Road/Mallard Road Intersection Improvement
This project includes the addition of a new right turn lane on Mallard Road to turn onto Old Orangeburg Road as well as a new right turn lane on Old Orangeburg Road to turn onto E Butternut Road.
Parsons Road
The Parsons Road Project includes the widening of Parsons Road to three lanes between Central Avenue and W. Richardson Avenue to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, and accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
Patriot Boulevard
The Patriot Boulevard Project includes the widening of Patriot Boulevard between the Charleston County line and Club Course Drive to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, and accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
Sawmill Branch Trail Extension
The project includes the extension of Sawmill Branch Trail approximately 0.6-mile from the existing greenway at Oakbrook YMCA (future *Oakbrook Sports Complex) to the existing multi-use path on Dorchester Road.
Stallsville Loop
The Stallsville Loop Project includes the realignment of Stallsville Loop from its existing intersection with Old Trolley Road to align with the intersection of Old Trolley and Miles Jamison Road to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow. The proposed project also includes accommodations for bicyclists and pedestrians.
US Highway 15
The US Highway 15 Project includes improvements to US Highway 15 between Connelly Haynes Road and Cloverleaf Drive. Proposed improvements include the addition of raised landscape medians, resurfacing, and intersection improvements to improve safety along this corridor.
US Highway 17A
The US Highway 17A Project proposes to widen US Highway 17A for approximately 6.5 miles between Research Center Drive and Greenwave Boulevard to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, and accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
US 17A Main Street
The US 17A Main Street Project includes improvements to US Highway 17A (Main Street) in Summerville between Carolina Avenue and Luke Avenue to reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic flow along the corridor.
US Highway 78 Phase 3A
The US Highway 78 Phase 3A Project includes improvements to approximately 5.1 miles of US 78 between Old Orangeburg Road/Dawson Branch Road and Maple Street. The project includes road widening, intersection improvements, and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations along the corridor. This project is one phase of a larger scale project to improve approximately 27 miles of US Highway 78 from the Town of St. George to the Town of Summerville.
US Highway 78 Phase 3B
The US Highway 78 Phase 3B Project includes improvements to approximately 1.5 miles of US78 between Maple Street and Berlin G. Myers Parkway in Summerville. The project includes road widening, intersection improvements, and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations along the corridor. This project is the final phase of a larger scale project to improve approximately 27 miles of US Highway 78 from the Town of St. George to the Town of Summerville.
US Highway 78 St. George
The US Highway 78 St. George Project includes improvements to US Highway 78 in St. George from Winding Woods Road to Academy Road. Proposed improvements include the addition of raised landscape medians, resurfacing, and intersection improvements to improve safety along this corridor.
Wallace Ackerman Drive Intersection Improvements
This project will add a new right turn lane on Wallace Ackerman Drive at Ladson Road to improve traffic flow and prevent vehicles waiting to go straight from blocking right turning vehicles.
Wescott Boulevard
The Wescott Boulevard Project includes the widening of Wescott Boulevard between Ballantine Drive and Patriot Boulevard to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, and accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
William Canady Road
The William Canady Rd Improvements include the widening of approximately 3500' of William Canady Road to 11' travel lanes from Short Cut Rd to US 78 as well as intersection improvements at US 78.
Completed Projects
Midland Parkway
Improvements include reconstruction of the Midland Parkway pavement, from Old Trolley Road to Ladson Road, and repair of damaged drainage curb inlets along the corridor. Construction was completed in November 2023.
